Women’s Softball Team Wins the Suncoast Conference Title, Finishes with 30-27 Record and Ranked 9th in Florida

05/02/2009: Polk Community College women’s softball team finished the season ranked ninth in the state with a 30-27 record. After winning the Suncoast Conference title, they ended their season in the Florida Community College Activities Association's state tournament with two losses to Chipola (by 7-5) and Manatee (by 5-3).
The Vikings won the Suncoast Conference crown with a first-time college head coach, Jeff Ellis, and just three returning starters.
Coach Ellis turned the Polk softball program into something special. For that he was named Suncoast Coach of the Year, and Viking pitcher Greta Cecchetti was named Suncoast Pitcher of the Year.

04/10/2009: The Polk Community College women’s softball team was crowned the 2009 Suncoast Conference Champions after they defeated Manatee Community College in the second game of a Thursday night twin bill.
The Vikings dropped the first game to the Manatee Hawks 4-1, but shut out Manatee 8-0 in the second game. With a 14-6 conference record, the Vikings earned the Suncoast Conference title. This is the first time since 1996 PCC has won the conference.
PCC will compete in the FCCAA State Softball Tournament that will be held at the Auburndale Sports Complex. The Vikings will play the 4th place team from the Panhandle Conference on Friday, May 1 at noon.

4/09/2009: With two victories Tuesday night over Hillsborough Community College, the PCC women’s softball team moved into contention to win the Suncoast Conference title.
The Vikings defeated the Hawks, 9-2 and 8-2, and raised their season record to 13-5 in the conference (28-23 overall).
The Vikings host Manatee Community College on Thursday, April 9 at 5 p.m. at the DiamondPlex in Winter Haven. If PCC wins one of the two games, they will be crowned conference champions.
