Spring Musical Performances and Music, Art and Theatre Scholarship Auditions
April 7, 2011 - April 13 at 7:30 p.m., Polk State College will host a performance of internationally acclaimed euphonium artist Gail Robertson at the Winter Haven campus Fine Arts auditorium. Before the concert, all Polk County student and teacher euphonium, tuba and trombone players are encouraged to participate in the massed Grand Finale Ensemble. There will be 1:30 p.m. Master Class in WFA 121 and a 3:00 p.m. Massed Ensemble Rehearsal in WFA 129. April 15 through 16, the Fine Arts Department will hold music and theatre placement and scholarship auditions and visual art portfolio evaluations. Auditions and portfolio evaluations will be held at the Winter Haven campus Fine Arts building Friday, April 15, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 16, 9:00 a.m. to noon. April 16 and 17 at 2:30 p.m., the Music Department will present two performances of "Masterwork of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" in the Winter Haven campus Fine Arts Theatre. This concert will feature the music of Mozart, Rossini and Vivaldi as well as jazz standards, today's composers Ames, Hogan, Sharp and premier performances of new compositions and arrangements by Polk State College music students.
The masterworks concerts feature all areas of the music department and music of every style from classical to jazz to the music of today. According to John Anderson, Polk State’s Coordinator of Music, "It has been a great year for the Polk State College Music Department. These concerts are our opportunity to introduce to the community we serve a new generation of outstanding young musicians."
