Polk State Volunteers Serve Guard Families

December 13, 2011 - Members of the Polk State College Chain of Lakes Collegiate High School chapter of the National Honor Society recently volunteered at the Winter Haven National Guard holiday party.

The students spent four hours volunteering at the Dec. 3 event,  staged at the Armory building for  members of the National Guard and their families.

The students took on a number of tasks, including: organizing attendees; supervising games; helping with face-painting and balloon-animal tables; supervising a bounce house; and working the bowling and egg toss activities.

The students also served catered food to the attendees and assisted with silent auction tables, accepting money and drawing winning tickets at the end of the auction.

National Honor Society Adviser Lynsay McCaulley said the group has previously volunteered for the National Guard, and always enjoys the experience.
