Polk State College will Celebrate Martin Luther King Day
with 2 Events in January

December 14, 2010 - In January, Polk State College will commemorate Martin Luther King’s Birthday with events in Winter Haven and Lakeland.

At 8 am on Tuesday, January 11, the Winter Haven campus will host a breakfast in WST-126, in the Student Center.

The keynote speaker will be Erica Riggins, Bay News 9 Morning Anchor. Riggins is a graduate of the University of Texas. After working as a news anchor in Texas, she moved to the Tampa area in 2005. Riggins has won an Emmy award for her reporting on students protesting the Iraq war. She also won the prestigious national Edward R. Murrow Award for best documentary for her reporting on child abuse in central Texas.

On Friday, January 14 at 11:30 am, the Lakeland Campus will host a luncheon in LTB-1100 in the Lakeland Technology Building.

The theme for this year’s celebrations is “Remember! Celebrate! Act! I, Too, Have a Dream.” Both are RSVP events. Anyone planning to attend should send an email to pbaker@polk.edu  or call 863-297-1095 before January 10.

NOTE: Polk State College will be closed on Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 17.
