Polk State Hosts Adjunct Faculty Job Fair
May 16, 2011 - The largest college in Polk County is hiring adjunct faculty to accommodate its expanding array of programs and growing student population. Polk State College will hold an “Adjunct Faculty Job Fair” on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., on its Lakeland campus.
College officials are seeking qualified adjunct instructors in over 30 disciplines, including natural sciences, liberal arts, humanities, health sciences, business, English, foreign language, and college preparatory courses. Most positions require a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline. Representatives from the college will be available at the fair to discuss specific opportunities and answer questions.
Polk State College maintains top-tier accreditation and offers a wide range of academic programs, including associate’s and bachelor’s degrees. A core of full-time, highly qualified faculty is supplemented by motivated adjuncts with appropriate academic credentials and practical, “real world” experience.
According to Dr. Eileen Holden, President of Polk State College, “One of the reasons Polk State is such a great place to learn is that we’ve worked so hard to make it a great place to earn. The College is a wonderful place to work, and I am thrilled that we are in a position to add dedicated, energetic adjuncts to the instructional mix for our students.”
Adjunct positions are available at each of Polk State’s locations: Lakeland, Winter Haven, Lake Wales and Lakeland Airside.
Polk State College offers competitive compensation and professional development opportunities for its adjunct instructors, including an excellent orientation, seminars in teaching methodologies and the potential for certification in online instruction.
Prospective instructors are encouraged to visit the Polk State College website to complete an application in advance (http://www.polk.edu/hr/). Applicants should submit the employment application, Adjunct Qualifications Form, FRS Certification Form and unofficial copies of academic transcripts at the fair.
Tuesday’s event will take place in the Lakeland Technology Building in LTB 1100. The fair is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Donald Painter via e-mail at dpainter@polk.edu or by phone at (863) 669-2929.
