Disability Awareness Month Events 2010
Wednesday, September 15, 2010 – Art Gallery Showcase in Lakeland at 5:00 p.m. Featured artists are from Wheely Amazing Art, an organization for artists who are living with a disability.
Monday, September 20, 2010 through Friday, October 1, 2010 – Polk State College students, trained as Peer Educators, will be giving a presentation about the various accommodations that are available in the Office of Disability Services for those who qualify. These Peer Educators will be visiting classes in Winter Haven and Lakeland.
Wednesday, October 20, 2010 – “Uncovering the Truth: Part I” – This DIAM event will involve real demonstrations on living with various disabilities. Demonstrations will include the experience of living with hearing loss and visual impairment. This event will take place on the Lakeland campus from 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. outside of the Student Center. For more information, please contact Kim Pearsall at (863) 669-2309.
Thursday, October 28, 2010 – “Uncovering the Truth: Part II” – This DIAM event will feature a keynote address from Dr. William Ferron, former Dean of Math, Sciences, and Health Dr. Ferron will be speaking about his own experience of developing and living with a disability as a result of an illness.
