The Polk Community College Vikings opened their 2008-09
campaign by hosting Daytona State College on Monday night at
the Health Center. Polk came out with great defense and
built their first half lead to as many as 15. The managed to
end the period up by 13, 34-21. The second half saw a game
Daytona State team fight hard to stay alive, slowly chipping
away at the lead. Polk went ice cold in the second half
shooting 8/27 and committing some key turnovers down the
stretch. However, the Vikings still managed to have the lead
with 2 minutes remaining. A couple crucial steal by Daytona
led to some fast-break baskets which allowed Daytona to gain
the advantage with :45 seconds to play. Polk came down and
fumbled the ball out of bounds while committing a foul,
sending Daytona to the line with a chance to ice the game
with :12 seconds. they missed the first but made the second
putting them up 57-54. The Vikings last shot fell short as
they were forced to foul with :01 second on the clock. After
both free throws were made, Daytona Sate defeated Polk
57-54. |
