| Winter Haven, FL --
The Polk Community College Vikings hosted Ancilla College
from Indianapolis, IN on Friday night for their second home
game of the year. The Vikings started out hot making their
first three 3-point field goals. However, Ancilla answered
back by executing their offense and making clutch baskets.
Polk stayed tough and gained a 5 point advantage at the
break 30-25. Polk came out the second half, yet again, with
good defense and gained an early 13 point advantage. Ancilla
kept making shots, chipping away at Polk's lead. Ancilla cut
the lead to 1 and even took the lead by 1 with 2 minutes to
go in the game. Polk answered right back with a free throw
tying the game at 56. The Vikings forced a turnover and
converted on the other end to go up 2, 58-56. Ancilla came
right back with a 3 to take the lead with 1:32 to play. Polk
came right back down and was fouled sending Polk's Quincy
Hankins to line with 1 minute and a tie game. He made one of
two tying the game. Ancilla came right back down and had a
chance to take the lead but their shot fell short and was
rebounded by the Vikings before they called timeout to set
up their last play. Out of the timeout, Polk ran a hi screen
for Lance Jeter who turned the corner and found a slashing
Tyron Johnson who out-leaped an Ancilla defender to finished
at the rim with 2.2 seconds remaining putting Polk up 61-59.
Ancilla called a timeout and set up a play but a long pass
was intercepted by Jeter to seal the game for the Vikings
who got their first home win of the year. |
