The Student Activities Board (SAB) is made up of nine members and works
throughout the school year to provide activities in a variety of areas. Although SAB does not actually serve as a student government, they are looked upon as student leaders who are in touch with the issues facing Polk Community College's student body. Therefore, their presence on campus committees is invaluable. The SAB members also serve as representatives for PCC in the Florida Junior/Community Colleges Student Government Association (FJCCSGA), keeping students informed on state-wide issues.

  How are members selected?
SAB members are selected each fall term and serve one year. Previous members of SAB must reapply each school year, providing they continue to meet the 2.25 GPA and nine semester hours requirements. All prospective candidate are interviewed by a non-partisan committee. Meetings are held once a week. Other activities, such as FJCCSGA meetings, campus events, and campus activities may be scheduled at night or on weekends. Members are expected to attend any and all events when ample notice is given. Every effort is made to schedule meetings around classes.

How does SAB pay for activities?
Each student who attends PCC pays a set fee per credit hour for student
activities. Out of the total amount generated, athletics, The PCC Press, Phi Theta Kappa, SAB, and other various campus groups are allocated money. From the amount SAB is allotted, activities and other expenses (travel and registration for state conferences) are paid.

What is the time commitment?
SAB at a minimum will take approximately one hour per week for meetings. However, for the board to be successful in serving the needs of students, more time will be required. SAB members should be ready to spend whatever time is needed to successfully plan activities and meet goals.

How do I apply?
You may pick up an application from Melvin Thompson in Student Service 863-669-2903 for the Lakeland Campus and Charlie Lyle in Student Service 863-292-3740 for the Winter Haven Campus.  Complete the application and set-up an interview time.

Can I still participate even if I am not chosen for the board?
Absolutely! While the constitution permits only nine members on the board, all meetings are open to the public. Students are welcome to attend meetings, participate in activities, and give feedback to board members. We are always in need of volunteers to help with activities!
