By-Law Changes

Xi Pi's chapter by-law revisions have been approved by the Phi Theta Kappa international office. As part of the revisions, our chapter's calendar year is now changed to January through December, with elections in mid-November.

How To Become A Member

Membership is based primarily upon academic achievement. Students attending Polk Community College who meet the qualifications will be invited to join the Xi Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. To be eligible:

  • you must be enrolled in a regionally accreditted institution offering an asssociate degree program;
  • you must have completed at least 12 hours of coursework leading to an associate degree program;
  • you must have a grade point average of 3.50 or higher;
  • you must enjoy full rights of citizenship in your country.

Your invitation to join Phi Theta Kappa will include several orientations dates for you to learn more about Xi Pi Chapter, pay your membership fees, and receive your t-shirt.

If you are unable to attend an orientation, you may still join by printing, completing, and returning both page 1 and page 2 of the membership application form to faculty advisor Penny Morris on the Lakeland campus. The application must include the total membership fee of 80 dollars in either cash or check. The check should be made out to Polk Community College.

MEMBERSHIP FEES AND APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE DEADLINE LISTED IN YOUR INVITATION.

Convention News

Regional Convention: Nov. 14 - 16

This year's regional convention was in Pensicola, FL at the Hilton Pensacola Beach Gulf Resort. Our chapter was able to drive through the night on the 13th to arrive with sleepy eyes early Friday morning.

This year our chapter received 7 awards. President Dr. Eileen Holden won the Distinguished Service Award. Our advisor, Penny Morris won Distinguished Advisor. Our chapter won Most Improved Chapter and Distinguished Chapter. Other awards won include: Grace Speese - Distinguished Officer, James Alcorn - Distinguished Member, and Tram Vu - Honorable Mention for Poetry. Congratulations to all our winners!!

Xi Pi ran for exective office for the Florida region, a postion equal to president. Unfortunately, we did not win.

International Convention

The 2009 International Convention will be held in Grapevine, Texas from April 16 - 18 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. More information TBA.

Induction - Spring Induction TBA

The following information is for those wishing to have an idea of what to expect at induction. The next induction is scheduled for the spring in 2009 and information will be updated as soon as available.

Schedule of Events

ATTIRE: "Sunday" clothes

  1. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the event is scheduled to begin.

  2. Check in and pick up your name card.

  3. The formal ceremony is planned to begin promptly at TBA. Each inductee and their families will be seated and the formal ceremony will begin. Toward the end of the ceremony, each inductee will line up and walk across the stage when his/her name is called.

  4. After the ceremony is completed, refreshments will be served in the WST student center banquet room. Guests are invited. The entire ceremony, including refreshments, should be over by TBA.

  5. The advisors, officers and members welcome you to the Xi Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Please feel free to call on us if you have any questions.
