Please click on the events above to find out more information on any of our projects.

Looking For a Way to Serve?

Xi Pi members spend nearly every weekend serving PCC, the local community or national charities. Whether it be collecting stuffed animals, washing cars, sorting donated books and canned goods, participating in a walk-a-thon, or assisting at numerous PCC sponsored events, Xi Pi members are eager to serve.

As Senator of Service, I oversee the numerous service events thoughout the 2008 - 2009 school year. Please read over the many service opportunities. When an event catches your eye, please send me an email. I will gladly answer any questions you may have. Also, if you would like to chair a service event, I would love to hear from you.

I am looking forward to a busy and rewarding year!

Fall Fest

ACS - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Saturday, 10/18 - Winter Haven PCC Campus- from 6am to 4pm.

Every year Xi Pi sponsors a concession booth at Fall Fest. We sell popcorn, drinks and various other items as one of our major fundraisers.

As a service project, we arrive at 6am to help other vendors transport their products to their booths. Because of this, we need as many helpers as we can gather.

This year in addition to the concession booth, we will hold a silent auction in the morning. If you have any business contacts who might be willing to donate and item or gift card, please contact Grace Vogt asap. We are in the process of collecting items now.

Please contact Grace to sign up to help in our concession booth. We request that you spend at least 2 hours helping, although any amount of time is appreciated.

For more information on all the Fall Fest activities please visit PCC's link to that page.

Saturday, 10/18 - Lakeland - At this year's event Xi Pi is helping with setting up. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 5am at the First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollings-worth Drive. Registration begins at 7:30am. Everyone raising $100 or more will receive a 2008 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer tee shirt.

Please visit our special webpage on the ACS website to join our team. Also, please contact Sheri Wilson if you are able to arrive at 5am for set up.

ACS - Relay For Life

Every spring for the past several years, Xi Pi participates in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The date and location of the event we sign up for is decided by PCC's calendar and Phi Theta Kappa's International Convention. In recent years we have signed up for Bartow, Auburndale, and Winter Haven. ACS has yet to announce the 2009 dates. Please check back early in the spring semester for date and location announcements. You may also contact the Senator of Service, Grace Vogt, for more information.

Project Graduation"Feed A Body, Feed A Mind"

Better World Books

Every fall and spring term, approximately a month before graduation, Xi Pi begins collecting canned goods and new children's books. After graduation, these items are donated to local food banks, shelters, etc.

Project Graduation's "Feed a Body, Feed a Mind" began as a request for family and friends of those graduating to enrich the next generation of students. Learning is better done on a full stomach, therefore food and books make a natural connection.

Recently, Xi Pi combined Project Graduation with another yearly event--our stuffed animal drive. The stuffed animals are donated to Meals on Wheels, the Polk County Sheriff's Office, an other community charities.

Look for collection boxes in the TLCCs on either campus beginning in November and again in April. Then shop for sales and bring in your donations, or you may bring them to graduation.

For more information, or to help with this event please contact the Senator of Service, Grace Vogt.

Xi Pi collects used textbooks, and sends them to Better World Books for distribution to students in other countries. Some books are sold so that teaching supplies may be purchased in the language of the country in need. This year the books collected will go toward education in Latin America.

Please donate your used textbooks into the green and white boxes located throughout both campuses. On the Winter Haven campus, one box is located next to Anna Butler's office door. On the Lakeland campus, on box is located in the admissions office. For more locations or information please contact the Better World Books chairman, Robert Gerber.

Golden Key Scholarship

A few years ago, Lora B. Martin had the idea of recycling old brass keys then using that money to fund a scholarship for a Phi Theta Kappa student. That idea grew until now the major amounts of brass recycled are from used shell casings.

The money collected from recycling the brass is deposited into an account with PCC's Foundation. After the funds grow to a certain amount, all monies will be matched dollar for dollar by the foundation. In the near future, the scholarship will be large enough to begin offering the scholarship to Xi Pi students.

For more information please contact Lora B. Martin.

Pop Top Collection

Please save the tabs from your soda cans, then drop them off in the TLCC or give them to Penny Morris. The tabs go to Ronald McDonald house and are valued at one cent each.

Polk Community College Activities Assistance

Throughout the school year, Xi Pi assists PCC in many of it's events. Some examples are open house, SGA activities, PCC First Days, Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, and graduation ushers. Please check the website on a regular basis for opportunitiest to sign up and volunteer for these events and more.
