In order to
retain your financial aid (pell grant), you must meet the following
criteria:
- Pass a minimum of 66 2/3% of
the original hours attempted for the year.
- Maintain a 66 2/3 % minimum
cumulative completion percentage of all courses taken. No federal
aid will be awarded after a student has attempted 90 semester
hours for students in a 60 hour major.
|
1. Objective:
The objective of this procedure
is Federal Regulations of 1983, amended 1993, requiring the establishment
of minimum standards of progress of all students receiving federal
financial aid.
2. Process:
A. The school will administer
financial aid standards of progress in accordance of the current
Polk Community College catalog.
B. It is required that a student maintains minimum
academic standing and make satisfactory progress toward a degree
or certificate. If a student fails to adhere to this policy,
his/her eligibility will be suspended. In order to maintain minimum
academic standing and satisfactory progress, a student must complete
a minimum of 66 2/3% of original attempted hours for the year
that the student is enrolled and meet GPA requirements. A student
must not be in academic warning status.
All students applying for Student
loans must maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA and have successfully
completed 12 credit hours of non-prep courses.
C. It is required that students maintain a 66 2/3%
minimum cumulative completion percentage on all course work attempted.
(Attempted courses are all courses enrolled in after drop/add
period). Most students will not receive federal aid at Polk Community
College after having attempted 90 semester hours, except when
there is a showing of extenuating circumstances.
D. All course work attempted will be considered
in computing financial aid standards of progress, whether or
not a student received financial aid in the past. Computation
will begin after one cumulative semester hour has been attempted.
E. A student must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA overall
to keep the PELL. Progress will also be monitored prior to awarding
financial aid to students with prior college experience. Student
will be notified in writing if they failed to maintain minimum
academic standing at the end of Term IV.
F. If a student fails to maintain academic
progress in accordance with the institutional Financial Aid Standards
of Progress, the Financial Aid Officer is required to withhold
federal financial aid until the student attains the minimum academic
progress level. If a student's academic progress improves during
the term, he/she may receive payments for subsequent periods,
but is still ineligible to receive the withheld financial aid.
G. An
appeal procedure based on extenuating circumstances will be available
to all students. All appeals by students must be in writing and
have documentation attached. The first level of appeal may be
to the Coordinator of Financial Aid. An additional appeal may
be made to the Awards, Financial Aid and Discipline Committee.
The Committee is composed of eight faculty members and four students.
The President of Polk Community College will review all actions
of the Committee. Appeals will be accepted up to 10 class days
from the start of the next term or 10 class days from the date
of notification from the Coordinator of Financial Aid, whichever
shall be the later date. No appeals will be accepted up to 10
class days from the start of the next term or 10 class days from
the date of notification from the Coordinator of Financial Aid,
whichever shall be the later date. No appeals will be accepted
after that date.
H. For renewal of the
