For students with special Bright
Future problems, Polk Community College has established a fee
waiver for recipients of the Florida Bright Futures Scholarships.
This will allow 2000 high school graduates who will receive Bright
Futures Scholarships to defer tuition and fees until PCC receives
the funds from the state.
"This arrangement will be
of great advantage to PCC Bright Futures students and will increase
the value of their scholarships," PCC President Larry Durrence
said, "We anticipate this program will reduce waiting time
during peak registration periods."
Students receiving these special
scholarships are alerted early in the summer. The new fee deferral
will allow them to plan their specific school related financial
arrangements much more precisely.
Recipients of the Academic Scholars
Award can defer 100% of their tuition and fees without adding
interest during the deferral period.
Merit Scholars and Gold Seal
Vocation Scholars can defer 75% of their tuition and fees on
a no interest basis.
The Gold Seal and Merit Scholars
will be required to pay the 25% of their total tuition fees at
the time of registration. A full-time Gold Seal or Merit Scholar
student taking 12 hours who will be able to register for an estimated
$600 scholarship will need to cover $150 for Fall Term.
Students should bring official
notification of their individual award as soon as it is received
and no later than one week prior to central registration of the
term you are attending. If for some reason the scholarship is
not awarded, the student will be responsible for the deferral
balance," he said.
Last year, more than 600 Bright
Futures Scholars from area high schools attended Polk Community
College. |
