Academic Merit Scholarships are awarded to students in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in high school. Recipients will be selected from students who are eligible to graduate from a regionally accredited Polk County high school with a weighted Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher calculation at the end of the fall term immediately preceding their projected high school graduation.

The scholarship is limited to tuition for sixty (60) semester hours within two (2) academic years. [The academic year consists of Term I, Term II, Term III (Summer A) and Term IV (Summer B)]. All courses must be necessary for  completion the student's degree program. College preparatory, remedial, unrelated electives, repeated courses due to withdrawal, failure, or attempt to improve grades are not included. Check with your academic counselor regarding all electives that you might decide to take. Regular lab fees and other usual and customary incidental charges are covered by this scholarship. Lab fees for music lessons, travel, special lessons and others exceeding $50.00 per course are not included.

**Standards of Progress**
To maintain eligibility for the Academic Merit Scholarship, the student must:

1. Enroll as a full-time student for any term benefits are awarded [Full-time status for Term I and Term II is a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours, Term III and Term IV is a minimum of six(6) semester hours].

2. Complete a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours during the first term with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.

3. Student will not be eligible to receive the scholarship until the Fall term within the calendar year after graduation from high school.

4. If a student transfers to another institution the scholarship will be terminated.

5. All courses in which the student receives a "W" will be counted as part of the sixty (60) hours for the scholarship. Early admission courses will not count toward the sixty (60) hours; however, early admission grades will be factored as part of the overall Standards of Progress.

We advise you to establish immediate communication with an academic advisor in the Student Services Department upon acceptance of this award. Your advisor will assist you with all academic plans. Your scholarship will be posted in the college computer system each semester prior to early registration in anticipation of your successful completion of the Standards of Progress requirements. If you do not achieve the aforementioned Standards of Progress, you will be required to pay for your courses before the first date tuition and fees are due. Failing to do so will result in being dropped from all classes. Re-registration will be required. If you do not pay your lab fees or other incidental charges you will be dropped from all classes. Re-registration will be required. Students who do not register during early or central registration will be assessed a $25.00 late payment fee.

If you do not successfully achieve the Standards of Progress during one term, your scholarship will be terminated.

Applications must be submitted by February 1st to be considered a candidate for the scholarship.
