PCC Standard Applications
Word 2000/XP (1.5
hrs.)
This introductory workshop outlines the basic functions of PCC’s
standard word processor. The interface, view modes, opening, saving,
printing, editing (cut, copy, paste), text formatting, page setup,
spell checking, printing and help features will all be covered.
Intermediate Word
2000/XP (1.5 hrs.)
This intermediate workshop covers topics in Word such as inserting
graphics, using the drawing tools, autoformat options, borders and
shading, text boxes, inserting files, drop caps, format painter and
other topics as determined by the class.
Topics in Word:
Mail Merge (1.5 hrs.)
This advanced Word workshop covers the process of creating a
mail-merge document, including database creation, form letters,
envelopes and mailing labels.
Topics in Word:
Using Tables (1.5 hrs.)
This advanced workshop covers the use of tables in Word as both a
layout tool and for creating data tables. Topics will include table
creation and modification, formatting with borders and shading and
inserting graphics in tables.
Powerpoint (1.5
hrs.)
This introductory workshop outlines the basic functions of PCC’s
standard presentation tool. The interface, view modes,
creating/formatting text, animating bullet points, importing
clipart/graphics, drawing/painting tools, and creating interactivity
are all covered. You will leave the workshop prepared to begin
creating instructional/business presentations.
Excel (1.5 hrs.)
This introductory workshop will get you started in this powerful
spreadsheet program. Interface, formatting columns and rows,
selecting data, moving data, formatting data, basic mathematical
operations, auto sums, and creating charts will all be covered.
Web Browsing
with Netscape (1.5 hrs.)
This introductory workshop will provide a thorough examination of
the capabilities and functions of our standard World Wide Web browsing
software. In addition to the operation of the software, issues such
as how to search for information and how to evaluate source bias of
Internet resources will be covered.
Multimedia Presentation Development

hrs.)
This introductory workshop outlines the basic functions of PCC’s

Other Workshops
Internet Search
Strategies (1.5 hrs.)
This workshop is designed to help you make the most of your
internet searching time. The three primary types of Internet search
tools (Subject Index, Relevancy Linking and Full-text Database) are
differentiated and one of each (Yahoo, Google and Altavista) will be
explored. Specific techniques to enhance the number of relevant hits
and to refine search queries will be discussed for each of the
representative search tools. In addition, use of the help features
available at the search sites to learn more about constructing
searches will be covered. The session concludes with information
about evaluating Internet resources for source bias.
Electronic
Library Databases: Searching Techniques and Strategies
(1.5 hrs.)
This workshop will introduce the various electronic resources
currently available in the PCC Libraries. Topics will include the PCC
Library website, LINCC (the State Community College System online
catalog), other online resources available through LINCC such as
subject-specific periodical indexes, Internet access, online
encyclopedias, and LUIS (the State University System online catalog).
Database search techniques and strategies will also be covered.
Gradequick (1.5
hrs.)
This workshop will get you started in the standard PCC gradebook
software. Topics addressed will include overall interface, creating
and editing rosters, score input, weighting scores, grading scale
modification, password protecting gradebooks and printing student
reports.
Learning Styles
with the Gregorc Mind Styles Model (2 hrs.)
This workshop will introduce participants to the Gregorc Mind
Styles Model and how knowledge of the four Gregorc Styles can help
transform teaching, learning, work and everyday activities.
Participants will be given the Gregorc Style Delineator to identify
their own unique style preferences, and learn to gain a better
understanding of how each person perceives and organizes the world
through those preferences. This workshop is based around
collaborative group activities that focus on developing effective
teamwork skills through a knowledge of learning styles. A follow-up
session for faculty will address the impact the styles have on
teaching and learning, along with specific tips for classroom teaching
and for using instructional technologies both in class and at a
distance in ways that address the needs of all four styles.
Web Materials Development
Web Production
This six hour (two three hour sessions) workshop covers the basic
process of creating an instructional or non-instructional website
using Microsoft FrontPage and Microsoft PhotoEditor. Topics include
the history of web page design including a brief look at how web pages
actually work, basic use of FrontPage for creating and formatting
text, inserting images, working with tables, creating links and
essential design tips. This workshop also shows how Microsoft
PhotoEditor can be used to convert images for webpages, as well as
simple image editing techniques. |
