Tutoring services in the TLCC are provided by both peer and professional tutors. Often we have instructors who are also part of our tutoring team. Tutors are available to currently enrolled PCC students at no additional charge. To see a tutor in the TLCC, stop first at our Front Desk to sign in on the sign-in computers and select tutoring as the activity. Once you go to the tutoring area you need, you should sign in on the tutor’s clipboard so that [he/she] can assist you. If you need help from the computer tutor, locate the tutor for help and [he/she] will record this on the clipboard. Tutors are available on a first come first serve basis; tutor schedules are located at the Front Desk and also here on our website. You can call the TLCC in advance to be sure there have been no schedule changes as tutor schedules are subject to change

English Tutors
English tutors are available to assist students taking Gordon Rule, a writing course or any other courses that require writing assignments. The tutors are here to help students with specific questions about the writing process including brainstorming and planning, editing and revising rough drafts, to preparing citations and formatting the finished product. During the interactive tutoring session, the English Tutor Checklist is filled out first by the student and used to help direct the tutoring session. Students may need to see a tutor for more than one session during the process of writing a paper. Tutors will help with group assignments if all group members are present or if a group of students have a similar assignment and would like to collaborate. Other writing related resources are available for use in the TLCC such as dictionaries, handouts, and writing handbooks.

Math Tutors
Math tutors will tutor varying levels of math in the TLCC. Students are encouraged to work with a math tutor whether the class is basic or more advanced. The earlier you begin working with a math tutor, the more opportunities you will have to work on potential problems and not fall behind. Although exceptions exist, one session with a math tutor is usually not a quick fix for problems in math, though regular visits during the semester can help you successfully complete your class. Many students find that studying or doing homework with access to a math tutor helps the learning process because they can get answers quickly to questions they may have. The math tutor area is available for individual study, small groups, and working on assignments. Math tutors circulate between the tables and help students as needs arise. Group Help Sessions are also offered at scheduled times and are facilitated by tutors as well as instructors. Other resources for math are available for use in the TLCC such as videos, handouts, textbooks, solution manuals, and tape duplication.

Computer Tutors
The computer tutors are available to help students taking computer courses or who need help completing computer-generated assignments. Tutors also assist students taking courses that teach or use software available in the TLCC and with general computer problems (opening/saving /formatting documents, printing, etc) while working on homework, class assignments, and projects. Most of the computers allow access to media such as floppy disks, ZIP disks, CD’s, and USB drives; some of the computers have CD writing capabilities as well. The computer tutor can assist you in finding a computer that will fit your needs at the time. If you wish to use the printers in the lab, you simply print your document; select it from the PRINT RELEASE STATION; pay for the document and pick it up from the printers. Black and white documents cost $.10 a page and color is $.50 a page. Laptops can be used in the TLCC and will connect to the Internet though a wireless connection. We cannot provide outlet usage or network access. While using the computers in the TLCC students are expected to follow the Informational Technology Access/Use Policy.
