How to Access Databases from any Internet Connected Computer

REMOTE ACCESS TO PCC LIBRARY DATABASES

Many of the databases that you use at the PCC Libraries are accessible remotely (from outside of the library). This is so because these databases run over the Internet using a World Wide Web interface. So, you will need an Internet connected computer and World Wide Web browser software, such as Netscape (version 4.7 or higher) or Internet Explorer (version 5.0 or higher), to access these resources.  You must enable your browser to accept cookies.  Turn off your pop up blocker.  Your browser must be Java enabled.

To access the PCC Library's databases...

1.  Go to the PCC Library homepage.
2.  Click on the DATABASES button (second from the top).
3.  Click on or DATABASES.
4.  Verify that Polk Community College is showing in the first box.

5.  Type your Social Security Number Number* (no dashes please) in the Borrower ID box.

Database logon verifies that you are a currently enrolled PCC student or currently employed staff member by checking your status in our library's automated circulation system patron database.  This database is maintained centrally by the College Center for Library Automation, an agency of the Florida Department of Education, Division of Community Colleges.

6.  Type the last four digits of your SSN in the PIN box.

7.  Click the "Logon" button.

8.  Select the database resource of your choice from the alphabetical "A-Z Journals" list, or, click the "By Subject" button to select by subject coverage.  If you're using "Multiple Dbase Search" page you may select multiple databases by category or from the alphabetical list for simultaneous searching.

9.  If your I.D. number is not accepted by the system or you need further assistance, call or email the PCC Library
