Services for Faculty

The PCC libraries support the college curriculum with information resources, technology, facilities, and services.

  • Videos & DVD:  Instructions on how to find out what we have and how to request videos and DVDs from the library.

  • Digitized videos: many of the library's videos have been digitIZed for faculty use are located at http://www.polk.edu/libraryvideos/ -
Contact the library for username and password.

    Also... try
Annenberg CPB Video on Demand --  http://learner.org/vod/login.html a free video resource for instructors.

  • Borrowing Privileges: Library materials designated as available for loan may be borrowed by authorized borrowers. Authorized borrowers include currently enrolled PCC students, currently employed PCC faculty and staff, and other categories of borrowers as noted in the Circulation Desk procedures manual. Please bring your current PCC employee card or your driver's license when you visit the library.  Adjuncts: please ask your department to contact the library to verify your employment or bring your current contract or appointment letter with you to the library on your first visit.  We will be happy to set you up in our library management system for borrowing and database access, but the only way we know you is if you or your department verifies your employment status.  Sorry, but we just don't get the information any other way.

  • Class Guides:  A librarian in partnership with the classroom instructor, create a class guide tailored to a specific classroom assignment or project. Each class guide is unique; however, all include the basic Information Literacy research principles students must master in order to succeed in our information rich society.

  • Copyright Law, Fair Use, and Intellectual Property: Read the PCC's copyright compliance procedure and access information resources, a "frequently asked questions" page and a sample copyright permissions request form from this page.

  • Course Reserve Readings: The libraries each offer Course Reserve services.  Faculty may place on reserve materials from the libraries' collections or their personal materials.  Items can be designated "for in-library use only" with a two hour check out period or can be loaned for 3 or 7 day periods.  For more information, contact the circulation desk of the library at which you wish to place your course reserve materials (ext. 6203 at Lakeland, or ext. 5040 at Winter Haven).

  • Creating Effective Library Assignments: Tips for incorporating information seeking skills into your course work.

  • Individual Instruction: On demand one on one instruction is available for full-time and adjunct faculty.  Stop by either campus library reference desk, or call the reference desk (WH ref. 5326 and LK ref. 6207) and ask for a tour of the facility and resources ...or email us (if you're shy).

See the staff directory for email addresses and phone extensions.

  • Information Literacy Instruction: The libraries offer a program of information research and library skills instruction to support faculty instruction and student learning.  Feel free to collaborate with a librarian to create instruction specifically tailored to your class or assignment.  Click on the link to view the available options.

  • Instructional materials: Our collection is built around the needs of the PCC curriculum. The collection development librarians and faculty review selection tools, research relevant topics, and recommend titles in order to plan and coordinate the development of print and non-print resources for the library. Librarians work with the faculty to support the programs of the college and to respond to changes in curricula with growing emphasis on distance education.  If there is something you feel the library should purchase to support the curriculum, please fill out and submit a Materials Request Form for our collection development team.
