WRITING THE RESEARCH PAPER

Requirements:
1. The paper must be 1,000 words or more. This 1,000 word requirement applies only to the text. Use Word Count to get word total and place at bottom of last page of text.
2. Pages must be numbered correctly according to MLA requirements. See TCW, p. 506.
3. At least 5 resources must be used.
4. The paper should be place in a pocketed three-ring folder which contains copies of all materials used in the paper. For each source you use, highlight the material you have used and identify next to the highlighting on what page of your paper that information can be found.
5. Keep all work on a separate disc. Include disc in folder.
6. Final copy must include title page, final outline in sentence format, text (following instructions below), and works cited page.
Grading:
1. Final outline in sentence format.
2. Correct page numbering, starting with page one.
3. Introduction with lead-in, explanation/background of topic, and thesis statement in blueprint format.
4. Body paragraphs organized in emphatic order, topic sentences placed first, using appropriate transitions and adequate supporting details presented with correct MLA citation.
5. Evidence of original organizational concepts which use resources for support.
6. Freedom from mechanical, grammatical errors.
7. Conclusion which summarizes and points to the future.
8. Works Cited List.
Process:
From list provided, choose and register a question to research. Each student will research an individual topic. Choose from the list provided, or create one of your own (prior instructor-approval required).
