SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES:

The college experience is much more likely to be positive if you attend class on a regular basis, arrive on time, attempt all assignments, and give your best effort. If you haven't already done so, set personal goals for yourself: visualize how your success in this class will help you succeed in other classes and will aid your career plans. Be sure to take adequate notes. Make regular use of tutorial services available at the TLCC.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ASSIGNMENTS:

Appearance of Written Work: All assignments must meet requirements of PCC Standards. See separate sheet.

Revisions: Incomplete or inaccurate work will be returned for revision. Papers returned for revision will be deducted 20% of their possible score. Papers marked for revision must be resubmitted by the next class meeting to earn credit for that assignment.  Double-check your work for accuracy.  When resubmitting work, be sure to staple the new copy on top of the old.

Late work:  No late work is accepted. Always turn work in on time, even if it is incomplete.

Make-up Work: Written assignments are due at the beginning of class on the specified date. Students who know they will not be in class when work is due should turn in the assignment before the deadline.  Exchange your telephone number with two or three other students in class; call those classmates when you are absent and/or have questions about upcoming assignments or missed material. Please do not use class time to review material you missed while absent!

Tests: A student must be present when a quiz begins in order to take the quiz. No make-ups are allowed for missed quizzes or missed homework assignments.

Identification: All work must have student name, class, section number and date in the upper right corner of the paper.  Work submitted without this information will be discarded and cannot be made up.

Floppy Discs: Store all your outside assignments on a 3.5" floppy disc (in addition to whatever files you store on a hard disc drive). Be sure to maintain a back-up disc, as well.

Portfolios: Use a hard-covered 3-ring notebook to store all your work.  Use section labels:

                Exercises

                Revisions

Web Quizzes

Projects

Feasibility Report

Projects will receive individual grades as completed (usually 100 points). Projects may include work beyond what is contained in the text. Other assignments will receive overall grades as assembled in the portfolio and will be presented during conferences which will be announced.

Plagiarism: Papers that plagiarize will be dealt with according to published College policy. The first instance of plagiarism means an automatic "F" for the assignment. Copies of the policy are available in Student  Services.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:

Cell Phones and Beepers: All such electronic devices will be turned off during class time. A student who uses a cell phone during class time, or who leaves the classroom to use the cell phone, will be counted absent for that class.

Food and Drink:  PCC policy states that no food or drink is allowed in a carpeted classroom. This would be especially true in a computer lab.

Use of Class Time: Do not trivialize class time by playing computer games.  If you are observed playing games, you will be asked to leave and will be marked absent.

ATTENDANCE:

You cannot earn an A if you miss more than three class hours (one night class). You cannot earn a passing grade if you accumulate seven or more hours of absence (two night classes).

Three tardies will equal one hour of absence. If you are more than ten minutes late to class, please do not interrupt the learning process of those who were prompt.  DO NOT ENTER THE CLASSROOM.  YOU HAVE BEEN MARKED ABSENT.

It is best to attend all class meetings on time so that you will not be caught by an emergency situation.

If you finish your work before the end of class, you may leave early if you check out with the instructor.  If you leave without checking out, you will be marked absent.
