Your Assignment

Option #1 - Artist Research Report

Research an artist or world significance and write a paper on the subject.
Use the following format for your paper.

1. Introduction - introduce your subject
2. Short biography of the artist (birthplace, timeframe of work, education, influences, etc) One page only!
3. Description of the art movement or style to which the artist belongs
4. Critique three significant works of the artist.  Use the method outlined in class. (Description, Interpretation, Evaluation)
5. Summary:  State your conclusions concerning the artist you selected. Possible topics might include the artist's lasting importance to the art world, collections in which the artist's work is held, and the impact the artist had on artistic trends.

Option #2 - Composer Research Report

Research a composer of world significance and write a paper on the subject.  
Use the following format for your paper.

1. Introduction - introduce your subject of your paper
2. Short biography of the composer (birthplace, timeframe of work, education, influences, etc) One page only!
3. Description of the stylistic time period to which he/she belonged
4. Critique one musical piece of the composer. (Make sure that the piece is of sufficient length) Discuss the music elements of the piece of music (instrumentation, Form and Structure, Expressive Qualities)  
5. Conclusion and Evaluation - State and evaluate the overall impact of the composer and his/her music.  Relate your comments to the musical elements and any overall relevance this composser gave to music.

Option #3 - Architecture Research Report

Research an architectural style or architect of world significance and write a paper on the subject.  
Use the following as a guide for your paper.

1. Introduction - introduce the subject of your paper
2. Describe the architectural style and the historical period involved.  If reporting on an architect, this section would be a short biography (one page only!) followed by a description of the architect's style and time period.
3. Critique three buildings of the architectural style or architect.  Discuss the following elements: buildings use and design, materials and construction, and aesthetic qualities.  Are there any unique qualities of the buildings?
4. If your report is on an architectural style, you may discuss some specific architects in this section.
5. Conclusions and Summary - Give your impressions and conclusions about this architectural style or architect.  State specific reasons for your evaluations.

Remember: Start early and ask questions if you do not understand how to proceed with your report.  Your instructor will gladly help!
