Research Paper Guidelines for ENC 1101 – Professor Martinson
1. The topic of the paper is your choice, as long as it has been discussed and approved by the professor.
2. Four to six content pages (intro to conclusion).
3. The format of the paper should follow MLA guidelines.
4. It must include an outline at the beginning and a Works Cited page at the end. Any paper turned in without a Works Cited page will be an automatic F!
5. Sources – 4-6. Three must come from the library (books or articles from journals or databases).
6. Have approximately 2-4 quotes or paraphrases per page.
7. Underline the thesis statement.
8. Begin the presearching process with a research question and spend the entire paper answering that question.
9. Use formal language - no first person.
10. A research paper is 80 percent your words and 20 percent your sources.
11. It is better to turn in a bad paper than a plagiarized paper.
