This course is an introduction to the basic concepts of inorganic chemistry for students who have had little if any previous instruction in chemistry. Topics covered include: measurements, the structure of the atom, structure of compounds, the periodic classification of the elements, chemical equations, calculations involving chemical equations, states of matter, solutions, acids, bases, and ionic equations. Computations employ rudimentary algebraic concepts with an emphasis on the factor-unit method of problem solving. Laboratory experiences support the principles of chemistry developed in the lecture portion of the course.Gordon Rule word requirement: 1500 words.
