FNSA
The Florida Nursing Student Association (FNSA) of Polk Community
College is a constituent of the State and National Student Nurses
Association. The purposes of FNSA focus on professional
development, community outreach and
networking. Florida has 3,000+ active members and is usually ranked
# 1 nationally! All Nursing students are eligible to join. Pre-nursing students may
join after they've completed 9 credit hours of pre-requisites.

Congratulations to our Nursing
students who were recently elected to serve as PCC FNSA Officers.
They are:
President- Sara Dycus, 1st Vice President-Sarah Linck, 2nd Vice President-Mandy
Rorhbaugh, Secretary-(tie- re-vote in August), Treasurer- Jessica
Polk, and Director of Public Relations- Dawn Wolf. Sarah Linck
is also the FNSA State Recording Secretary. Thank you to our
outgoing FNSA officers and to students who will serve on various
Committees.
This will be a
GREAT year!
Examples of upcoming activities
include: Nursing I Orientation, clinical specialty and agency
luncheon presentations, community outreach through the
"Mission" in Winter Haven, blood pressure screening at health fairs
and PCC's FALLFEST, "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Walk" in Lakeland (October 18), State Convention in Daytona Beach (October
29-31), PCC Allied Health Career Fair (November), Health checks and
Vision screening on children at the
Redlands Migrant Head Start Center (November and December), National Student Nurse Week (February), Nursing
Open House (March) and National Nurses Week (May 6th-12th).
Together we'll
accomplish our goals of promoting professional development,
networking and serving our community.
Events-Recent and Upcoming
Children's Vision Screening
(CAPS)- Thank you to Sarah
Linck, Amy Lash, Jennifer Richardet, Sarah Malek, Carrie
Huffstickler, Maja Strollo, Jennifer Cardona and Stephanie Piper
who have met the national CAPS (vision screening) certification
requirements and performed vision assessments at the Migrant Head
Start Center in Wahneta in December. Children identified at
risk for a vision problem receive a complete vision examination and
glasses free of charge!

Thank
you to our Nursing students and faculty
who assisted with blood pressure checks and referrals. The
photos below reveal the interest and enjoyment experienced during
the fair.
The 15th Annual PCC
Nursing Open House was held Thursday, March 6th, on the Winter Haven
campus. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate PCC
Nursing!
Several hundred guests attended. The event was educational and fun
for all ages.

"Educators and Advocates, The Future of
Healthcare" was the theme for the Annual FNSA Convention held in
Orlando October 31-November 2, 2007.
Congratulations to the 130 PCC
Nursing Students who attended and earned several state awards
including 1st Place- "Chapter of the Year" (a first in
PCC Nursing history!

Maja, Jennifer, Stephanie and Amy completed the CAPS (Children's
Vision Screening class).
The August, 2007 Nursing I class project earned Second Place
in the "Convention Theme Related Project" category! The winning
group members were: Susanna Albright, Marjorie Figueroa, Cheryl
Heatherington, Sarah Linck, Schevon Pierre, Amanda Richardson
and Amanda Rohrbaugh.

PCC FNSA members fulfilled their responsibilities
as Delegates at State convention. We appreciate
their leadership and commitment!

PCC also earned
First Place in the "Community Health and Heart
Health Education" categories. PCC's
"Jeopardy" Panel placed fourth in state in academic competition.
Panel members were: Jeanne Smith, Alysha
Schnepp, Amy Lash and David Barrett. Sarah Linck
(N I student) and Mrs. Toni Linck (faculty) received
Honorable Mention for their leadership in CAPS (Children's
Vision Screening). Dr. Annette Hutcherson received
Honorable Mention in the "Dean/Director" category.
