A Baccalaureate Degree Program (BSN) for the Associate Degree Nurse is offered by the University of South Florida.

Information for Prospective USF RN-BSN Students

    RN to BSN Application Process (required for all students)

  • Application to the University of South Florida
  • Application to the College of Nursing
  • ADN from a Florida Community College**;
  • GPA 2.5 cumulative (all undergraduate work);
  • Provide proof of current RN licensure;
  • Proof of health insurance;
  • Current CPR validation;and
  • Current health/immunization requirements
  • Completion of all required Nursing and USF undergraduate pre-requisite courses

If the applicant has not completed the general education requirements and state mandated prerequisites before admission, these can be completed after admission to the program. Students are encouraged to complete the required English and Math courses prior to beginning the Nursing courses. **Out of state ADN/AA degrees will be evaluated course by course. Application deadline:  November 15th for Spring (January) term; April 1st for Summer term and July 1st for the Fall term. New Student Admission as NON-Degree Seeking will remain available.

*07-13-05-- USF announced that Introductory Chemistry (1025C) will be accepted for the Chemistry requirement for all their Nursing students.
+ The Historical Perspective course requirements (both Western and ALAMEA-Nonwestern) are met with an Associate in Arts (AA) Degree. 

Exit requirements (Upper Level) – 6 hours of upper-level exit credit are required. NUR 3826 Legal & Ethical Aspects of Nursing/Health Care (3) meets three credits of this requirement. Nursing electives may meet the additional exit requirements. Please contact an Advisor for specific course options.

Students with a Florida Community College Associate of Arts degree (other than in Nursing) will be considered to have met all of the USF Liberal Arts requirements but must also meet specific college requirements. RN to BSN students who also have an A.A. degree (non-nursing) will not have to take the ALAMEA course and only need 3 credits of History. Students in Florida Community Colleges can obtain information about equivalent courses from advisors or by viewing the equivalencies at Community Colleges within the USF service area.

Students are required to meet the university requirement for Foreign language. This requirement is met with two years of the same language at the high school level or two semesters (at least 8 credit hours) of the same language in college or completion of an Associate of Arts or ADN degree from an articulated Florida Community College prior to September 1989.

Students must take the CLAST Examination or meet the alternative requirements by earning a C+ or higher in ENC 1101, ENC 1102 and the 2 Gordon Rule Math courses (Algebra or Finite Math and Statistics).  RN to BSN students are encouraged to complete this requirement prior to beginning the USF Nursing courses.

New Students: Must enroll in NUR 3805 during their first term of Nursing enrollment.

Students need to complete Statistics before taking NUR 4165 Nursing Inquiry.
