Mathematicians List

Due Date: Wednesday, December 3, 2008

Directions:

Keep a running list of the mathematicians discussed in class. When the list is submitted, it needs to be typed and properly spaced. The mathematicians will be numbered, and each person will have 2 – 5 bullets under their name. USING YOUR OWN WORDS, write one thing that the mathematician is famous for in each bullet. The information will come from your class notes and text book ONLY. I do not want information that you have found from other sources. The list should be an individual effort and should not have the same wording as a classmate’s list.

Example Format:

1. Joe Schmoe

• This individual was the first to prove the Impossible Algorithm Theorem.
• He died from trying to count too high.

2. Rita Robertson

• She was known for making the weirdest faces when solving a math problem.
• She discovered a way to do her math work in the bathtub, but the results were lost forever after the attack of her drain monster.
• Rita is memorialized at the South Pole.

3. Simon Kirian

• At the age of 2, Simon successfully proved Fermat’s Last Theorem.
• At the age of 3, he forgot everything he knew.

(Note: The information in this format is entirely fictitious, but you get the idea.)
