Refer to page 7 of the Drug Dosage Lab document (green pages) in the course packet for the handout "PCC Drug Dosage Notation and Calculation Rules".  To receive credit for a correct answer, the final answer on calculations must be given according to these rules.  Also, you must show your work and the work must support the answer.

Ratio and proportion will be used to work all problems.  Students are strongly encouraged to set problems up with the left hand side of the ratio being the known information.  The first step in the calculation is to then put labels in on the right hand side to match those on the left.  You cannot solve a ratio if the labels don't match.  Once the labels are in place, then add in the numbers from the problem in the appropriate place in the ratio.  You then cross multiply and solve for X.  (See Topic on Calculation Hints for further review and examples.)

Students are strongly encouraged to not try to do any problem in your head.  I recommend that you set up a ratio regardless of how simple a problem may seem.  This will accomplish two things:  (1)  it will help you avoid making careless mistakes; and (2) it will give you practice with ratio and proportion for the more complex problems that you cannot do in your head.
