Evaluation Methods

Evaluation

Lecture Tests – 45%

·       There will be five (5) lecture tests each worth 100 points.

·       These will be objective tests and scan sheets will be used.  Bring a pencil.

·       The test will be curved so that the class average is 75%.  Scores from students earning a raw score of less than 50% will not be included in the calculation of the curve.

·     Students not attending the entire lab session on lecture test day will not receive the curve points.

·       No test will be dropped.

·       ONE lecture test may be missed and a makeup test taken in the TLCC. Please contact me ahead of time if possible so the makeup test can be placed in the TLCC.  You will have one week to complete the test.

·       More than one lecture test may not be made-up; a score of 0% will be recorded for subsequent missed tests.

Lab Tests – 30%

    • There will be four (4) lab tests each worth 100 points administered during the scheduled lab time.
    • Lab tests are all completion tests from the activities done in lab.
    • Lab tests cannot be made up; missed lab tests will be recorded as 0%.
    • Lab tests will not be curved but bonus questions will be included.
    • Students not attending the entire lecture session on lab test day will not receive credit for the bonus questions.

Participation – 10%

    • Attendance is essential to learning.  There will be a sign-in sheet for lecture.  You will receive 3 points for each lecture if you attend, are on time and participate.  You will lose 1 point if you are tardy.
    • Participation in lab will include completing pre-lab assignments before lab.  These assignments may be collected at the beginning of a lab session.  You must be in lab to turn in the assignment.
    • The Biochemistry and Cell Membrane Transport and Permeability labs require post-lab reports.  These Lab Reports will be turned in according to schedule provided.  Attendance in these labs is mandatory.  These labs can not be made up.
    • You are expected to remain in class, lecture and lab, for the entire class period.
    • Please email me if you are having difficulty with an assignment. adele.allison@polk-fl.net
    • You can call me at 863 – 602 – 3867.  I work during the day so leave your name, number and a message and I will get back to you.

Comprehensive Final Exam – 15%

·         This test will be given at the beginning of the term as a pretest.  Similar questions will be on subsequent tests throughout the term.

·         This test will consist of 100 questions covering all of the chapters included during the term.

·         Scan sheets will be used.  Bring a pencil.

·         The final exam will be curved in the same manner as the lecture tests.

·         The final exam will be given on the final exam night.
