Attendance—Yep! You gotta come to class!!

Attendance is mandatory.  You cannot benefit from the class if you don’t come to the class.  You are accountable for your attendance.  See the Attendance and Late Work Policy handout for additional details on absences.

Cell Phones—Quite simply, turn them OFF before you walk through the classroom door.  If your cell phone rings, if you check your voicemail, or if you talk on your cell during class, you will be counted absent for the day.

Course Schedule

The schedule is provided as a guide for class work.  I frequently need to change the schedule as the semester proceeds; any changes will be noted in class.  Please refer to the schedule for work and reading schedules.

Standards for Written Work

All written work must be typed, double-spaced, left-aligned, and use 10 or 12 point type.  There is only a regular double space between paragraphs in double-spaced work.  Please limit font styles to those suitable for academic work.  Times Roman, Tahoma, Courier, and Arial are safe choices.  Work that does not meet these criteria will be returned to the writer for reformatting.  The late penalty will apply.  Additionally, I must to be able to look at your entire body of work, so do not staple your writing assignments.

Exams

The final exams are dictated by the department.  Students who have special testing needs must notify instructor and make alternative arrangements for testing prior to the testing day.

Classwork, Homework, and Participation

All students are expected to complete all homework and reading assignments and to be prepared to participate in class and group discussions and work each class meeting.  This class can be very interesting and lively if students are prepared to participate in class discussions and terribly boring if students have not read the assignments well-enough to discuss them.  All students are expected to bring journals, texts, pens, paper, and your disk containing all paragraphs and essays every day.  If you don’t have your text, the instructor may count you as absent for the day.
