Title:                       Torn Autumn Trees from Paper with Sponge Painting

 

Grade Level:          Pre-K – 6

 

Objectives:            Fine/small motor skill development, enhance language skills and cognitive thinking, recognition of basic geometric shapes, creativity, following directions

 

Materials:              White paper

                                Construction paper - brown

                                Glue

                                Tempera paint - red, yellow, orange, brown, green

                                Small pieces of sponge and clothes pins

 

Procedure:             1.             Discuss the characteristics of trees, they resemble hands and arms.  The roots are hands that grab the earth.  The branches are arms that reach for the sky.

2.             Tear the brown construction paper into a tree form.  Use the scraps to make more branches.                

3.                    Glue the shapes onto the paper to create the body of your tree.

4.                    Use the sponges to lightly make the leaves.  Overlap the colors to create a fall scene.

                               

Variation:               Create a tree for springtime, summer, or winter.

 

Evaluation:            Discuss the creation of the artwork.  Remark on the variations of colors/different results created by using the same materials.  Each one is different and beautiful just like the student who made it.  Display the work.
