Title:                       Thumb Prints

 

Grade Level:          Pre-K – 6

 

Objectives:            Fine/small motor skill development, enhance language skills and cognitive thinking, creativity, following directions

 

Materials:              White paper

                                Ink pad

                                Markers or crayons

 

Procedure:             1.             Press a finger or thumb onto the ink pad

2.                    Press the finger or thumb onto the white paper

3.                    Repeat to make several prints, thinking about creating one or several shapes

4.                    Use the markers or crayons to finish the image             

 

Variation                Use watercolors or tempera instead of the ink  pad

                                Create a theme: circus, insects, a school of fish

 

Evaluation:            Discuss the creation of the artwork.  Remark on the variations of colors/different results created by using the same materials.  Each one is different and beautiful just like the student who made it.  Display the work.
