Grade Level: Pre-K – 6
Objectives: Fine motor skill development, creativity, color recognition
Materials: ˝ cup white flour
˝ cup salt
a little less than 1 cup of water
plastic squeeze bottles
4--5 teaspoons tempera paint
paint brushes
paper/cardboard
mixing bowl
funnel (optional)
Procedure: 1. Stir together the flour, salt, and about half of the water in the bowl.
2. Add the tempera paint.
3. Slowly add more water until the mixture can be poured but is not runny.
4. Use the funnel to pour into a squeeze bottle.
5. Squeeze the paint onto the paper/cardboard to make the design.
6. Allow to dry for several hours.
Suggestions: Use puffy paint and index cards to make a set of “touchy-feely” alphabet cards. They make learning the letters fun!
Evaluation: Discuss the designs made, discuss the variations in the color. When the paint is dry, have the children touch and feel this three dimensional paint.
