Title:                       PUFFY PAINT

 

Grade Level:          Pre-K – 6

 

Objectives:            Fine motor skill development, creativity, color recognition

 

Materials:              ˝ cup white flour

˝ cup salt

                                a little less than 1 cup of water

                                plastic squeeze bottles

                                4--5 teaspoons tempera paint

                                paint brushes

                                paper/cardboard

                                mixing bowl

                                funnel (optional)

                               

Procedure:             1.             Stir together the flour, salt, and about half of the water in the bowl.

2.                    Add the tempera paint.

3.                    Slowly add more water until the mixture can be poured but is not runny.

4.                    Use the funnel to pour into a squeeze bottle.

5.                    Squeeze the paint onto the paper/cardboard to make the design.

6.                    Allow to dry for several hours.

 

Suggestions:         Use puffy paint and index cards to make a set of “touchy-feely” alphabet cards.  They   make learning the letters fun! 

 

Evaluation:            Discuss the designs made, discuss the variations in the color.  When the paint is dry, have the children touch and feel this three dimensional paint.
