Title:                       Figure Drawing - family

Grade Level:          Pre-K – 6

Objectives:            Fine/small motor skill development, enhance language skills and cognitive thinking, recognition of basic geometric shapes, creativity, following directions

Materials:              White paper

                                Pencils

                                Markers or crayons

Procedure:

1.

Think of the geometric shapes: squares, circles, triangles, ovals, and rectangles.

2.

Use these shapes to draw the human body: circle for the head; square for the torso/body; rectangles for the arms and legs; etc.

3.

Remember that people have bones in their bodies.  Don’t draw rubber band arms and legs.

4.

Think about proportions.  A person’s waist divides the body in half.

5.

Children’s heads are proportionally larger than adult heads.

6.

Draw your family members and give them a lot of details.

Variation                Create a theme: circus, school friends, camp, neighborhood, church

Evaluation:            Discuss the creation of the artwork.  Remark on the variations of colors/different results created by using the same materials.  Each one is different and beautiful just like the student who made it.  Display the work.
