Title:                       Caged Animals

 

Grade Level:          Pre-K – 6

 

Objectives:            Fine/small motor skill development, enhance language skills and cognitive thinking, recognition of basic geometric shapes, creativity, following directions

 

Materials:              White and colored construction paper

                                Pencils

                                Markers or crayons

                                Scissors

 

 

Procedure:            

 

1.

Think of the geometric shapes: squares, circles, triangles, ovals, and rectangles used in drawing animals and the learning from the previous lesson.

2.

Give each child a piece of white paper to draw their animal on and a piece of colored paper to create the cage.

3.

On the colored paper, draw a cage, and cut it out.  On the white paper draw one or more animals.  Decorate them with many details.

4.

Add a background with many details.  Color the picture.

5.

Place the cage paper on top of the animal drawing.  Glue the top paper to the bottom paper.

 

 

 

Variation:               Make a Circus Train and link the cages together.  Add other details like an engine and clowns.         

 

Evaluation:            Discuss the creation of the artwork.  Remark on the variations of colors/different results created by using the same materials.  Each one is different and beautiful just like the student who made it.  Display the work.
