Title:                       DRAWING/WRITING SKILLS – Baby Oil Drawing

 

Grade Level:          Pre-K – 6

 

Objectives:            Fine motor skill development, creativity, follow directions

 

Materials:              Paper - bond, construction

                                Crayons/markers

                                Baby oil, mineral oil, vegetable oil

                                Cotton balls, cotton swabs, paint brushes

                                Small dish

                               

Procedure:             1.             Cover table with newspaper

2.                    Pour oil into dish

3.                    Dip cotton ball, swab, or paint brush into oil

4.                    Draw design onto paper with oiled utensil

5.                    After the oil has soaked into the paper, hold it up to the light to see the transparent design

Variations:             1.             Draw with crayons before applying the oil, the oil should enrich the color

                                2.             paint a watercolor design over the oil and observe how the oil resists the paint

 

Evaluation:            Discuss the designs made, discuss the variations in the color when crayon/watercolor is  also used.
