This course is a continuation of ENC 0001 and is designed to be a simplified study of the functions of parts of speech, clauses, sentence types, capitalization, punctuation, spelling and the writing of sentences, paragraphs, and themes with the intention of improving the student's basic writing skills. Credit in this course does not count toward graduation.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENT: Placement by Florida's CPT examination or a passing grade in ENC 0001, College Preparatory Writing I.

EXIT REQUIREMENT:
You must pass the class with a minimum grade of D, as well as the departmental essay final and the State-mandated final examination (passing score: 22).

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION: These will vary according to course objectives, student learning needs, and instructional style.

Grading scale:
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 - 69
F = 0 - 59

THE GORDON RULE does not apply to this course.

WRITING REQUIREMENTS: Check the Homepage frequently for writing assignments.

STUDENT HELP: I am available for you during my office hours. Tutorial help is available in the TLCCs on both campuses. The schedule for tutors is posted in the TLCCs and on the TLCC Website. You are encouraged to work with the tutors.

WITHDRAWAL: After the Drop/Add period, you may officially withdraw without penalty from any credit course if you submit the appropriate form to Student Services by 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2001. It is your responsibility to submit these withdrawal forms. Failure to do so may result in an "F" in the course.

ATTENDANCE: Regular attendance is your responsibility. If you are absent for more than 3 hours, you may be dropped from the course with a "W" grade before the withdrawal date (March 1, 2001). After the withdrawal date, you will an "F" grade for the course for excessive absences (more than 3 hours accumulated since the beginning of the term). Lateness of less than 10 minutes counts as a 30-minute absence. Lateness of 10 minutes or more counts as an hour of absence.

WORK MISSED: All assignments must be completed on time. Except for rare, documented emergencies, no make-up work or tests will be permitted. Technology failures do not constitute emergencies. Do not wait until the last minute to submit assignments. Late or missing assignments may cause you to fail this course.

REPEATING A COURSE: Under the Forgiveness Policy, a student is allowed three attempts in any one college credit course: one initial enrollment and two repeats. A course cannot be repeated unless the previously earned grade is a "D", "F", or "W" (see college catalog for details).

PCC STANDARDS: You are responsible for your own work. It is assumed that each student is honest and will abide by that standard. However, in the event there is an indication or suspicion that there has been a case of cheating/plagiarism, the situation will be dealt with in accordance with published College policy. Copies of this policy are available in Student Services offices.
