Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) Portfolio

Table of Contents

EPI Participants will be required to complete a portfolio. A core of specific items listed below will be included in your portfolio. You should purchase a 3", 3 ring binder notebook and 50 or more clear sheet protectors. The portfolio should have a professional appearance and will be viewed/graded by peers in the Diversity course.

If you do not have an application that can view Adobe pdf documents, you will need to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader for Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP or 2003 from this site to view some of the documents.

    All Participants (Teachers and Non-Teachers) need to complete this form in the beginning, middle, and end of the EPI program. 
    Disposition to Teach will be dropped in the Online Dropbox for record keeping and program evaluation. (Participant will have to copy and paste
   the Disposition to Teach form into a word document so answers can be typed into the form).

5.  Foundations of Research - Based Practices in Reading
Bring to Class the following Books: Are You Prepared to Teach Reading? A Practical Tool for Self-Assessment by James Zarrillo

ESOL Strategies for Teaching Content
Booklets given out in Class: Report of the National Reading Panel, (National Institute for Literacy)
and Put Reading First, (National Institute for Literacy)

MANDATORY: Prior to reading the book, take the test that is located at the end of the book.
After taking the test, grade yourself to establish a pre-class knowledge level. At the completion
of the reading segment, retake the test and rescore to measure your learning gains.
Students should read Chapters 1-5 PRIOR to the first meeting. They should read Chapters 6-10 and 15 PRIOR to the second
class meeting.

Field Experience for Teaching Profession and Diversity (Non-Teacher)
Non-Teacher Participants are required by to have 15 hours of Field Experience in The Teaching Profession and Diversity segment for a total of 30 hours. The participant must observe in a classroom where the teacher has a Professional Teacher Certificate.
During that time participants have to teach a lesson in their subject area to their peers in EPI and in the K-12 classroom. Participants will
be observed by a clinically trained observer.

Field Experience for the Teaching Profession and Diversity (Teachers Currently Teaching)
Participants are required to have 15 hours of Field Experience in The Teaching Profession and Diversity Segment. Teachers employed by the school district will get their field experience at participant's school site on the job. Teacher participant will fill out the reflective journal and submit a copy in the Online Dropbox. Participant must register/pay for the field experience segment.
