ACADEMIC ADVISOR-

TALENT SEARCH PROGRAM-WH 

Full-time, temporary (grant funded) position available working as an Academic Advisor in the Talent Search program, at off-campus sites throughout Polk County. The Talent Search Program focuses on middle and high school student’s grades 6 thru 12 from disadvantaged backgrounds, assisting them in their pursuit of higher levels of academic, economic and social achievement, resulting in their enrollment in postsecondary education. 

Responsibilities include: Assist in the selection, assessment and placement of Talent Search students; provide individual academic, career and personal counseling and goal setting; conduct group instruction and counseling sessions; document, monitor and follow up on student progress; review student progress with participants and community agencies.  Perform duties in a professional manner with strong interactive and interpersonal skills and have computer skills within a Windows environment. 

Qualifications include: Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree in counseling or related field preferred.  Two years experience working effectively with disadvantaged students and individuals with disabilities required.  Some evening and weekends may be required.
